The famous Efteling attraction "Flying Dutchman" is currently undergoing a major maintenance program executed by blasting and painting contractor Muehlhan.
The Flying Dutchman is based on the story of "Willem van der Decken", captain of the "Den Hollander", a vessel from the fleet of the "Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie". Willem van der Decken defied rules, etiquette and the elements and got punished. His ship changed into a mysterious ghost ship that was doomed to sail the seven seas forever as the "Flying Dutchman".
The 420 meter long track lays partly under water and is therefore continuously under attack of corrosion. This corrosion is treated with Eurogrit aluminium silicate blastcleaning abrasive (coal slag blasting grit) type A3.
On 8 March 2014, the attractions will be reopened and will the Flying Dutchman sail again.
