News | Historical Sint Servais Bridge Maastricht blast cleaned with Eurogrit

At this moment, the historical Sint Servais Bridge in Maastricht is undergoing maintenance. The monumental bridge is made of stone, but the movable part on the eastern side is made of steel. This part is currently being blasted and painted.

Why is the maintenance necessary? Rust-forming has been found at the movable part of the bridge which also partly has to be replaced.

The work is being done by blasting- and painting contractor De Koning and the abrasive used is Eurogrit aluminium silicate abrasive (coalslag blasting grit) type A3.

The bridge has been built between 1280 and 1298 for the "Kapittel van Sint Servaas" as replacement of the previous Roman bridge that collapsed in 1275.
